My quite young Mother and let's say five years old so that makes the year 1923, the same year my Dad was born in London. He spent much of his young life in Hong Kong so they really weren't far from each other but they didn't meet until the late forties in Edinburgh.
Her little feets look highly mucky in this one so apparently they were allowed to touch the ground sometimes.
The picture must be from Chifu or Weihai, China, both of which are on the coast, but they lived mostly in Shanghai, I believe.
The family is made up of some highly-determined globetrottin' fools but, man, you see so many incredible things that way.
By the way, that's not a beach; Bondi is a beach in Sydney and one of the most beautiful in the world. This is not some wimpy Florida beach which washes away in a storm. Bondi is also not so heavily-encroached by hotels it stops being a beach anymore.
Bondi is where my ol' Dad was rigorous about the Check In protocol. When he called out those words, you WILL come immediately and line up by age. Maybe that sounds militaristic but they never lost a kid in the surf. Maybe you think it's easy to prevent that but try it with six kids.

That is a very old picture of Bondi.
There is a drum circle building now and a rather large volleyball complex added for the 2000 olympics
It did not ruin the beach though and might even have been a temporary venue
I'm green over going back to see it, particularly with the whole family. It's also great to hear they didn't trash it since those beaches are out of Disneyland for me. I have memories of beautiful places over there and I'm not sure where they were or even what they were called but, in sum, it's dazzling.
Maybe you remember the twisted jaunt around the US before I went into the Army as that visited the perimeter most of the way around and part of it was looking for beaches like that but they were either too cold, waves weren't big enough, etc, etc. California beaches are pretty but that water is damn cold.
Gulf is awesome for beaches and warm water almost all year round. But fairly poor diving unless you go to Cozumel.
I have been to Galveston but it's got even less waves than the Med! The snorkeling at Aruba is some of the best time I ever spent in the water. For me, that's one of life's grandest experiences.
Yep the first time you swim through a colorful school of fish you remember all the details.
Second only to a swim in open water with a shark. That one causes a religious experience of walking in water
