The Scientists Discover Religious People Are Generally Nuts

Believers will just love this one and roll with it because we do see the comedy.  Researchers at the University of Helsinki determined through a survey of 258 participants it's less likely believers will accept rational things.  (RT: Religious people have poor understanding of reality, controversial study finds, University of Helsinki: Skepticism: Genuine unbelief or implicit beliefs in the supernatural?)

They instead apply human characteristics and attributes to the world around them and think inanimate objects are able to think and feel.

What, you mean they can't think and feel?  A tree really is animate even if it's not animated about it so maybe that's not what is meant.  In any case, am I supposed to believe a Giant Sequoia tree has been there for three thousand years and never did more than twiddle its branches.

Pish posh.  Tommyrot.  Fiddle faddle.

Maybe they really do mean inanimate objects but I'm not aware of anyone thinking a rock or a piece of wood thinks or feels ... or at least not much.

(Ed:  Gaia is in everything!)

Truly, my brothers and sisters.  We saw the other day twenty percent of the mass of the creatures of the Earth is underground. The life is everywhere.  Om ... Om ... Om ...

To really buy much of this study, how about we review the questions in it to find out just how loaded they made them.

(Ed:  are you seriously claiming sampler bias?)

Yup.

Die Kaninchen know I'm not pushing any religion but these generalizations on science puzzle me when they may not have even been duplicated for corroboration.  For my own situation, my purpose is to understand physical and metaphysical worlds at once as that gives a perspective on where they may integrate because my head will explode if one obviates the other.  My own metaphysical world is in direct recognition of the physical and, thus far, no head explosion.

It's being kind of elitist about it in terms of rational religion but you know it's true things often aren't wired the same for evangelicals with some giving up as total barking lunatics.  I don't see elitism with regard to people who see religion as justification for doing wicked things to children.  I'll definitely be standing by total barking lunatics for that crew.

There's probably some truth to the study but you will probably always get a dumb ass answer from, well, a dumb ass so I really wonder just who these survey participants were because the study could be easily loaded that way also.  They're only identified as 'Finnish participants' so they might have called up the Church of the Flying Lizards to find their believers, no way to know.
