Abby Martin Does Stand-Up

"Breaking the Set" opened today with Abby Martin doing a gameshow presentation of who might be selected as the next leader of the NSA in replacement of Keith Alexander.  This was the darkest kind of comedy but it was still funny to watch her doing it.

The King of Political Comedy and deservedly has been Jon Stewart for quite a few years and, not surprisingly, I've been a huge fan of his work.  It's difficult to follow him over here but I was immensely proud the other day when he favorited one of the tweets about the blog article a few days ago on Abby Martin.  Maybe it wasn't Jon Stewart but rather someone on his staff but the fact that anyone associated with him would consider the article worthwhile is very encouraging to me.

Abby Martin and Jon Stewart are the two individuals I respect the most in television broadcasting as they are relentless in the pursuit of truth.  Stewart is a comedian first and an activist second and it would be fascinating to talk to him over that choice.  It was a brilliant choice in terms of getting his message out as millions of people follow him but would he choose that again if he had it to do over.

Abby Martin does it the other way around in which she is an activist first and a comedienne second.  I strongly think she would do exactly the same thing if it were her choice to start over again.  However, I doubt she has as large a following as Jon Stewart, notwithstanding the extremely insightful work she does.

Martin is also deadly as she interviewed Elizabeth Imus-Zero, daughter of Don Imus who has been hammered multiple times for his radio show.  Imus-Zero made reference to the socialist government of the U.S. and Martin skewered her for it.  Imus-Zero also made a reference to the liberal media and Martin corrected her on that as well, telling her that all of the news media in the U.S. are owned by six corporations with no interest beyond making money.

The reference to socialism in the U.S. was in regard to the Affordable Care Act which I've noted previously isn't even close to socialised medicine.  In fact it's driven by insurance corporations and they even wrote the damn thing.  It's just another method of empowering corporate America and it has no resemblance at all to socialised medicine except that it involves doctors.

Larry King is a likeable old guy but he's neither an activist nor a comedian.  He does a show on RT News called "Politicking" and he featured a revolting interview with Newt Gingrich the other day.  The show as a whole does kind of a good-old-boy glad-handing of the Washington cronies but no-one is really held accountable for anything.

Gingrich congratulated himself for his role in the budget settlements with Bill Clinton and that's fair as they really did balance the budget and they really were reducing the debt.  However, he went beyond that to start apologising for Boehner, saying that his job was much more difficult because he had the monkeys from the Tea Party upsetting things.  Gingrich didn't call them monkeys but their behaviour has given ample evidence of it.

What revolted me the most about the feature with Gingrich was that the interview was really just to hustle his book and also that of his wife, Callista.  She writes children's books and the latest features Ellie the Elephant.  King asked him if Ellie was to represent the Republican Party and Gingrich denied it but that's obvious rubbish.  The only way the symbol could be more blatant is if she adds a donkey in Doc Martens and a Nazi uniform.
