Staying Covered-Up in the Texas Sun

There hasn't been a cloud in the sky for four or five days now and that Texas Sun is blazing.  Nevertheless, if I'm outside the hoodie will be up.  If I turn up at the dermo doctor with even a hint of a suntan, I'm busted like Jesse James.

The reason this is getting pushed even harder is I got some significant coloring on the lower half of my face and that's enough for a bust.  It doesn't matter where it goes since it's not allowed to be there.

The only way to go out into the noonday Sun safely is if you were born with your dark skin.  Otherwise the incidence of skin cancer skyrockets (literally).  Not surprisingly, the worst is for white people and it appears black people are almost immune to it.  No surprises in that but here's a CDC chart:

CDC:  Incidence of Skin Cancer by Race and Ethnicity

There's zero complexity to this.  White people can't handle it but many of us croak trying anyway.

Anyone remember that little girl in the Coppertone ads?

Bueller??

Bueller???

What do you know, here she is.  St Petersburg Times: Real Florida: Red-faced with the Coppertone Girl (she has no more tan than the average mushroom now)

Sun block to me is repugnant for only a million reasons or so.  The other alternative is to cover up and that non-chemical solution is far more preferable.  It's also one hell of a lot hotter in Texas but suck it up ... the alternative is clear and it applies to all white people.

So, yah, if you see some idiot walking around in a hoodie in the Summer down here, you will know why (larfs).
