Cadillac Man Also Said This

He was admiring of how many reads Ithaka gets in a day and it looks like you're bangin' hard toward a thousand again today.  His thought was people may come here even when they don't necessarily agree because they can have reasonable surety, even when they don't like it, my testimony is probably true.

It is true because I suck at lying but that could be a lie.  Something you can see for yourself is there's nothing on Ithaka which makes a dime for me.  I didn't want it to be a profit center when I did have money and, even though I don't know, I still don't want it that way.  No-one will ever believe anything I say when I'm taking money to say it.  The same was true when I wouldn't even take tips for writing glowing articles about various musicians since why should anyone believe my review is unbiased if I get paid to write it.

There may be a heterogeneous lot visiting since there's maybe an even-up chance I will be slashing some politician they don't like so you can look at it as a menu-driven bile monkey, if you like (larfs).

Note:  you won't help your cause by trashing your opponent as it just takes you down to the same gutter.  I don't recommend using anything I write for that purpose as that's been one of the single biggest failings in this election.  In my case, I obviously don't like either of the primary runners but nothing is written to purpose.  It's what I see and that elicits some bilious scribes.

Wouldn't it be excellent if the candidates actually stood up for their principles and said, "Damn it, this is what I am and I stand by it."

Fark!  Serve me some of that and maybe I'll pay attention.  I seriously doubt the slash monkey politics play to anyone except the lowest level of the political hierarchy but there's one sad fact about that, we're outnumbered by them and the politicians know it.  That goes back to CM's thinking the media brought more people into the election which is good but they don't seem particularly discerning which has been terribly bad.

Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing if the candidates treated their jobs as if they were adults and tried to engage such people positively rather than patronizing the living hell out of them with tabloid crap you can find in a Wal-Mart checkout line.  Just a thought.

As Lewis Black said, "13% of the electorate thinks it would be better if the Earth were hit by a meteor rather than either candidate winning."

I'm really not one of them but I do see some merit to being whacked in a blinding flash rather than breaking down modular style in which we arise to review, let's see, what stuff works today.

Cadillac Man knows how that goes as well and 'a man's got to know his limitations' and sure that's Dirty Harry getting into the act.  But a man who does know his limitations can act within them and, poof, there he goes off in search of another soda fountain to get a taste of a pleasant drink and a bit of really sweet American history.  Most of all, CM is highly gregarious and loves talking to people.  He worked in inner city Detroit sometimes and he met all kinds of people from all over the world.

He observed Somalians seem to do quite well but people from other backgrounds did not necessarily do so well.  There's got to be some interesting Anthropology behind that and CM has already done the field work.  He wasn't so sure he would approach it in the same way today because of increasing gun violence and decreasing personal reaction time.  He may well be the least-racist person I ever met.

I really do care deeply for the future for your children even when I have none of my own and won't be in it.  However, this is starting to sound like televangelism and that means STOP RIGHT NOW!

That was another observation today as Greeks brought chili to Cincinnati and owned it. It was also Greeks with the soda fountain yesterday and they started with chocolate. That's not just a pitch because I love Greece but it was interesting to see.

I never saw chili in Greece (larfs).
