Rayleigh's Curse is a informal term for something which has plagued any advancement in optics, either for the resolution of the tiniest objects or the bigger ones. (Science Daily: A team of physicists dispels Rayleigh's curse)
Scientists have dispatched Rayleigh's Curse to the same status of the curse of what happens when one umbrella indoors.
(Ed: what is that consequence of that curse about umbrellas?)
I really have no idea but I learned way back, don't do that. It was also extremely bad juju to put shoes on a bed. Make of it what you will.
In killing Rayleigh's Curse, the potential for substantial improvement in resolution for microscopes, cameras, and telescopes is apparently boosted enormously. The science of optics has much complex science as your twisted mind may desire and please do read the article as there's no way I will presume to explain it.
For the sci fi in this one, how about if this improved resolution actually permits scientists to find dark matter since they have hunted all over the place but they still haven't seen any.
(Ed: scientists just made up dark matter to make money!)
Well, thanks for that Republican insight (larfs).
For the horror sci fi movie, they do finally locate the dark matter ... and it's expanding. Aiiiyyeee, we're all going to die.
(Ed: what kind of movie is that when no-one can see anything?)
Think Michael Crichton and "The Andromeda Strain" and roll with it.
(Ed: then it's just a damn doctor movie. Might as well make another boring cop show!)
Well, I didn't say it would an exciting horror sci fi movie.
