The Staten Island Ferry Octopus Attack of 1963

The Staten Island Ferry Disaster Memorial Museum honors the four hundred victims who died when a giant octopus attacked the Cornelius G. Kolff, a Staten Island Ferry boat, on Nov. 22, 1963.  The event was overshadowed by the assassination of JFK that same day and so never received any significant attention but the Memorial Museum exists to ensure it cannot be forgotten.

There's also a memorial along the boardwalk to meet the ferries and it shares that tender memory with those of the modern time.
