Sure, the title is clickbait but it's real as the global ocean currents are slowing. (Science Daily: Gulf Stream slowdown tied to changes in Southern Hemisphere)
This is a depiction of the global ocean circulation. In the Atlantic Ocean, warm water travels north at the surface, while cooler water travels south at depth. Researchers are studying what controls the strength of this circulation.

How about that for damn cool as the phenomenon is global and goes well past the pitfart little thoughts in Congress. Measurement of the slowdown only goes about ten years but consider the volume of water involved and that's one massive change.
The most interesting aspect of this is how it integrates with the overall phenomenon of global warming. While the warming will increase temperatures in Europe, the slower Gulf Stream will reduce the warmth brought North to Europe from the Gulf, etc. This doesn't obviate global warming but it adds a novel twist to it. What it sounds like that means is the tropical parts of the Earth are going to take by far the worst beating from global warming but the melting ice caps still sink New York (sob).
Note: we don't care much because we see the only part of New York worth saving as Broadway.
"The Day After Tomorrow" was presented as sci fi but it's 99% rubbish so we won't presume to top that standard so will leave extensions of this phenomenon alone.
OK, done. That one has been sitting in the queue for days. Off to the rack momentarily but there's this deucedly dastardly determination to produce even when I know people hate me and won't lift a finger to help.
Note: I know a rare small few of you would help if you could but you're not typical Americans, are you, and it would be one hell of a loss if you were.
