We don't need a dissertation on the pros / cons but Cadillac Man brought up a novel point on the positions people take either way. Since free access to abortion has been the Law of the Land for about fifty years, the liberals are the ones who seek to overturn that.
It's novel but not necessarily accurate since the fundamental liberalism is freedom of choice, etc but the idea of what is liberalism is interesting because people don't seem to have any idea what it means.
One of the greatest things in talking to Cadillac Man is we don't argue but rather review and our perspectives are not necessarily the same since he's a bit more negative about Putin and a bit more positive about Clinton than I think is realistic. Nevertheless, these things are bases for discussion and not combat.
He also offered this one: "You made some bad choices" is the universal mantra of Republicans to blow off helping on anything.
I have heard that one many times (larfs).
Kaninchen, please do not take this personally as I'm well aware of who has done immense things to help and I would have ended up in a gutter on the jaunt across Europe if not for Lotho.
(Ed: what happened to The Lotho?)
Using The Lotho, The Doc, The Silas may be mildly amusing but it's also completely dumb so enough of that.
There was some review of what the media channels have done to the election insofar as they have probably got more people engaged but the channels have polarized so heavily the people really don't learn anything by it.
We can see one example just now with Joe Biden rattling his saber toward Russia and the reaction has mostly been, ooh wow, you go, Patriotic Man, but there's almost no review of why he is doing it. The failure of the media in this election has been abysmal but what anyone can do about that is questionable.
Something we did not review is what can be done about it and I suggest now corporate finance reform is a step toward that because the stupendous sums spent in the campaigns cause a shark feeding frenzy in the media where they make the election a product rather than a simple political contest.
I submit if the enormous funds on the election were substantially reduced, the commercial networks would dump the political themes just as quickly as the banks abandoned the people of the inner city thereby giving rise to the check cashing outfits, etc.
Cadillac Man made clear he has a high priority for national defense but he did not say, as often happens with others, 'the best defense is a good offense.' In fact, it's not the best defense since the offense only creates the need for more defense. This is as far as the discussion went in our conversation.
In my case, the need for national defense always exists and I appreciate that fact. I'll pull Jill Stein's number for that and suggest the military should be cut by fifty percent just for openers. Concentrate on a realistic defense and I will support it but I will never support all this blind aggression which is almost invariably blamed on other causes (e.g. ISIS made me do it, Putin made me do it, etc).
For example, Washington is currently touting the USS Zumwalt, possibly the world's biggest battleship, and it's stealthy stealthiness. However, a battleship never goes anywhere alone and if the subs and aircraft can't find the Zumwalt then they will most likely find the others and the Zumwalt will get sunk anyway.
How many more billions will you spend the make the entire US fleet stealthy. How about stealth aircraft carriers, huh?
Defense I will support. Wild aggression for no more purpose than keeping war plants running in America will never be acceptable, especially when such plants aren't even the biggest part of the US economy but rather a dark mercenary stain within it.
It was a great talk, Cadillac Man, and I know this doesn't cover all the points but hopefully it accurately summarizes a few of them.
