It was imperative to get to the Dead Zone of Wal-Mart to replace the rat puke soft drink of Pepsi with Real Sugar.
With the mission complete at Wal-Mart I headed to check out and a mature woman (i.e. code for a woman who has advanced some in years and is not necessarily a foxey lady anymore) was hurriedly trying to get checked out since she didn't want to impede my progress and she said so.
I said back to her, "Never you mind. I'm too old to be in a hurry and I smiled.)
That reassurance did not much slow her frantic pace so I didn't load any of my stuff behind hers or perhaps then she might have felt even more pressured.
This went on for some while as she had a lotta stuff but this was the only open checkout aisle at that time of the morning. She said she likes to come at this time of day since it's not so crowded and so do I for the same reason. I told her, "Who needs the hassle of that plus the pressure," and smiled again.
She smiled back as she could see I meant it. Just to be sure I said, "You can hear I'm from the North but I'm still not in a hurry."
That one went right home.
In time she checked out, smiled, and went on her way. I got finished quickly since I didn't have much stuff beyond the replacement for the rat puke soda, some spinach, and a bit of crumbled feta cheese.
When I pushed my cart out to the parking lot, she was maybe half a dozen cars a way loading hers but she gave me a smile and a cheery wave which of course I returned.
Sometimes it does only take a smile.
(Ed: are you trying to imply you're not the villainous bastard we see here online?)
Nah, I freely admit it (larfs).

This has happened to me many times. I will get a smile and kind words from someone just when I needed to hear them. I have also been told the same from others--total strangers too. No explaining it. ML
I'm so damn cheerful when I go down there the late-risers would probably want to choke me but they're not up at that time anyway. Everyone sees how when I ask them how they are then I wait for an answer. Smiles and smiles and I hugely believe in smile power. I love how it all goes around.
