Notification of advances in robot technology have been frequent on Ithaka as the Kaninchen are already aware, possibly painfully. Brit MPs are sounding an alarm but being alarmist is too extreme, better to be informed and evolve into the future in a rational way. (RT: Robots are coming… and will ‘fundamentally’ change human life, UK MPs warn)
Wow, that sounds terrifying, doesn't it.
There's no need to be terrified but there's great need for awareness because the advances in robot technology are real and highly-sophisticated. The self-driving personal vehicles are just more pandering to a consumer society but the manufacturer robots serve an increasingly strong purpose while medical robots can perform high-level diagnostics. Those are the ones which are coming but the self-driving car is still mostly an extremely-expensive joke which is nothing more than a Republican attempt to extend consumerism.
Following the pusillanimous peregrinations of the human opuscules in the Republican Party guarantees absolutely nothing will ever happen but we need to be substantially more aggressive in greeting the future than they will ever be. Let them hang about getting wistful about Model T Fords as we've got places to go and things to do.
We have to create the future because, if you'll check the records, Republicans never create anything.
America has a substantial manufacturing base and Republicans are undermining the automotive manufacturing unions but they never try to break the unions for Lockheed Martin or Boeing since they make military toys as well as private aircraft. Aerospace manufacturing is a substantial part of the US export economy and who knows how much research into robotization takes place within that industry but you know already there's plenty of it in automotive manufacturing.
Note: the union at Lockheed Martin is relatively weak and they haven't been on strike for years.
The Rock City Saga addresses the robotization and welcomes it because they do things humans mostly really don't want to do anyway. The Rock City may be too futuristic for the present context but we submit you're going to wind up in one anyway. The problem to solve just now is what to do with all the heat produced because Lotho was correct to say we're creating giant heat pumps with the Rock Cities. With enough of them conceivably that much heat will significantly change global weather, as if it needs more warming.
Note: the heat produced by the Rock City should actually be less than a traditional city due to absence of cars, etc but the principle remains the same that the heat is a resource which must be used rather than wasted, possibly or probably destructively.
We don't yet have the Theory of the Moment to deal with the heat problem and we need it because we can't do as humans usually do now and vent the heat to the atmosphere. The heat is a resource and we need to find a way to use it ... or I do so you can decide, whoa, that's complete crap ... or it's not.
Inherent to all of this is the reduction in jobs due to robotization. It's coming and a good deal of it has already started but think about it and you know a whole lot more is coming. We can sit around wringing our hands or we can use the minds we were given to make solutions. I vote for solutions and damn sure not endless fruitless 'debate' which is typically nothing more than a Republican delaying tactic to defer everything to more military spending.
In short, we don't have time to fuck around anymore. The Brit MPs seem to be at least trying to find awareness but they may not yet realize the huge sociological changes which are inherent in displacing human workers. That will be followed through in the Rock City but I've already said I'm going to destroy the current economic system because it's not workable in the future. The replacement is better and you can decide if you believe that when I present it.
