Facial recognition data has been collected on 117 million Americans and perhaps many regard this as benign insofar as it may assist in catching bad guys. Even Jack Webb back in "Dragnet," often regarded as America's favorite cop, relied on police lineups to identify perpetrators of crime. (RT: Half of Americans in ‘virtual lineup’ face-recognition police programs – study)
The sci fi aspect of this one may not be apparent to everyone since we're not much concerned about any benign application but rather how else such technology may also be used. We also don't know how the information has been obtained nor do we know the reliability of the association of that face with its true identity. There's a whole box load of sci fi horror movies about police states which could be written on the matter and those are just the ones by Oliver Stone or Werner Herzog, there will be more.
Your freedom is not one passport but three:
Freedom doesn't come without possession of a passport since no-one is free anywhere one cannot leave. However, police may demand surrender of your passport. Perhaps they would accept the one which is expired along with the cop you just never got around to renewing it. The next step is to turn over the copy which is not expired but never ever turn over the third since that's your last chance to preserve your freedom.
The above applies to three passports from anywhere in the world since there's a long editorial on the constricting nature of police forces in many countries. Likely regular bad guys (i.e. foreign bombers, etc) will be hard-pressed to get one forged passport so getting three of them should most probably be out of his reach. That won't stop 007 or Bourne but nothing stops them anyway. It also doesn't stop the benign globetrotter who carries the passports legally and simply wants protection against political prosecution.
Wherever it's legal to obtain dual citizenship, you're advised it's a good idea and for many more reasons than a useful tool for potential political prisoners. Due to the nature of some aspects of international provincialism, it behooves anyone to carry more than one passport since one may confer access to places the other does not.
For example, when traveling on a single passport, you're probably a tourista. The American passport would therefore permit me to visit Stonehenge but not to rent a pad and live in England somewhere. However, the UK passport gives me the right to domicile so I can do that even while I still carry an American passport and I have.
Possession of two passports may seem elitist or affected but there ample legitimate reasons to do it and the ability to do is not beyond most people when an American can likely achieve dual citizenship with Mexico with not so much difficulty.
The overall provincialism of such systems gives way to a raft of political editorials on the absurdity of feudal systems ... but I'm not going to write them when you're fully capable of writing them yourself. The only interest in the Rockhouse is defending against them, hence this article.
