What we have in encryption is an unusual political situation and it's not one which usually gets combative, maybe because of the mix on the politics. For this one Socialist Left and Goldwater Right are in agreement: do not give this to the state, it doesn't have the right. However, there's also the contingent pushing the idea we will all soon be eaten by centipedes and they're on it hard about the outrageous violation of law by Apple, it weakens the nation, etc, etc.
Note: if you really don't like Apple, hang for the segment at the end as that's sure to be an Apple-hatin' giggler. I am not such a beast but I still found it quite funny.

Restating the points only insults you but the breakout on viewpoints may be interesting insofar as identifying the ones who are afraid we will soon be eaten by centipedes. As we saw in the video with Lindsey Graham, even one of the warriors against the centipedes could review the problem of encryption further and decide forcing Apple to break it would be a large risk to the country.
Therefore, I submit a dispassionate review of the evidence may well change your mind on the matter and John Oliver is a comedian but he's an extremely bright one and he gets the audience because he's not distorting anything. The research by his team is meticulous and you will know it immediately. The genius is making it funny.
Here at the Rockhouse, we don't believe there's a risk of being eaten by centipedes any more than there is a risk of being eaten by ISIS. If you stop shooting them and go home, more than likely they won't chase you. Without assistance, they can't. From their standpoint, the Viet Cong liberated Vietnam but they never came over here for reprisals after the war.
