"Silas and a Big Ass Ham" (video)

The Digitech Vocalist LiveFX is the latest of the musical boxes on the floor and this is a video of playing with it to find if it's possible to use it to sound like Barry White.  There was a question of deep significance David Letterman asked Barry White some years ago and this video shows an attempt to recreate the results of that test.

If you're uncertain of sexuality, gender, race, preference in M&Ms (i.e. plain or peanut) etc this video might not be your best choice.  There's no deliberate disrespect to anyone but you will see in the video what I mean.

The autofocus on one of the cameras is unpredictable but the room light is so strange that I'm not particularly critical of the camera's performance.  Of much bigger significance is that the audio sync drops out over time.  This is the same situation I saw previously in which the sync is visibly off within ten minutes.

Likely the sync problem comes because audio isn't shot with any consideration to video frame rates and the conversion isn't being done correctly.  That doesn't mean a fail in the software but rather it's being told to do it the wrong way.  The problem is probably due to a frame rate of 30 per second vs 29.97 per second and I'm sure you'll be fascinated to ignore all the gory details in resolving the discrepancy.

Something I didn't say quite right at the end:  if your voice isn't good enough FOR YOU then there isn't anything Pitch Effects can do to help with that.

The patch was only to play with it but I'm going to keep it as you never know when you'll need a Big Ass Ham!
