Heaters lit in the early hours of the morning protect vineyards from frost damage

There's chaos elsewhere in France from the rioting but the winemaking hasn't changed in centuries. Through revolutions and everything else, the farmers still need to keep the vines safe from the frost and it probably hasn't changed all that much for the technique.
Light up the smudge pots, mon ami; it will be a cold one tonight.
They do this just the same in Florida to protect the orange trees during a frost.
