You Won't Find the Supermercado Monterrey in Rhode Island

Yevette tweeted yesterday, "J'taime Putin."

The response she got was "English please."

She wasn't sure what to say so I suggested, "I'm sorry.  I was not aware of your handicap."

It's really not fair to criticize Rhode Island because it doesn't have a Spanish quarter, etc.  It's not big enough for that and dividing it into quarters wouldn't change the fact all are freezing and covered with snow right now ... but all speak English.  RI is only mentioned because that's where I have heard English Only expressed most fervently.

In essence, you can have English Only or have 87F and sunshine over dry streets down here in Texas.  Your choice, li'l Pilgrims.

Note:  there is a large population of Portuguese people in Rhode Island and unknown why they favor the area given the cold of the Winter.  It could be they and Hispanics are about the same percentage with the percentage of black people much lower.

Texas is about fifty percent Hispanic and that figure is steadily increasing.  Hispanic is not counted as a race because Hispanic people may be of any race.  Think that through and find it's logical even if it's oddly disturbing.  The disturbance here at the Rockhouse is it's apparently such a nebulous thing even while so many get so rabidly hysterical about it.

While there's no racial difference, we do believe there's a tribal difference insofar as North America had a huge majority of English and Germans settling here and that's the Germanic team.  South America was largely settled by Spain and Portugal so that makes up your Romance team.  That's legitimate based on original languages which do break out as Germanic for English and German and Romance for Spanish.  So we submit there are two teams but not two races.

The hare-brained thesis for the moment is we are much more our languages than we are our different skin colors, races, etc.  The language defines the tribe and the tribe defines the culture.  This grand revelation comes straight from the lips of the Great God Mescalito to your ears.

Yevette was thinking of taking pictures and I told her everywhere has got museums and statues but they won't tell people anything about Fort Worth and this will.  This is the real color of the city and the people who live here.

(Ed:  yellow and red)

You passed that one, Astronaut Man.

In local news, Wal-Mart is just down the street but they haven't managed to knock out the Supermercado Monterrey and we sure hope they are not able to do it.

This is America, small businesses doing for the economy what Wal-Mart never will.
