The capture of El Chapo was straight out of Hollywood replete with lots of gunfire, dead bad guys, and no major casualties among the good guys followed by high drama as El Chapo is chased through secret passageways and then the sewer system.
The movie has the extra twist of the run-up to the arrest with Sean Penn who has been lauded by Mexican cops but crucified by most reviewers for what many are saying is the most self-serving interview they have ever read. One reviewer admired Penn's ability to a work a reference to his penis into it. Combine this intrigue with the hot Mexican actress and you've got a movie, buddy boy.
However, we don't want to see El Chapo portrayed as we have seen him since his capture. He has looked like a homely and harmless, middle-aged man who only wants to play in the garden with his kids. We resent in one giant way this portrayal when in actuality he is one of the most evil takers of lives on the northern hemisphere of the planet. He is a major source of Mexican heroin flowing into the United States and the national consequence of that is appalling with obvious evidence in the large increases in heroin overdoses.
So who plays El Chapo. Antonio Banderas seems like a pick but we want you to hate him and who would ever hate Banderas.
Even more twisted is who plays Sean Penn. How about if he plays himself and, why not, he's an excellent actor.
Maybe find a Bond girl for the hot Mexican actress or maybe she plays herself too. That way gets all sorts of on-set intrigue for the tabloids. Couldn't be better.
I'd bet at least a blueberry muffin someone is writing that screenplay at this minute.
