If You Want Morbid, Just Go Online

Whenever someone croaks, you can guarantee social networks will be flooded with laments from countless people expressing their deep loss, usually as memes someone else made.

Lemmy croaked and that was kind of beautiful because I was surprised how many people I know actually knew Lemmy and he moved all of them.  Right after that, David Bowie died and every hippie wannabe from here to Caldonia was lamenting the loss.

(Ed:  where is Caldonia?)

No idea.

Right after that, Alan Rickman died and now it starts all over again.

There are so many obituaries on Facebook now that people are begging to bring back the cat pictures.

(Ed:  are you one of them?)

Hell no.  Our preference here is to catch Grumpy Cat and eat him.  Yah, you're grumpy but now you're going to be dinner.  How grumpy are you now, suckah???

(Ed:  don't you like these people?)

I didn't know of Lemmy's work but it sounds like it was a gas to hang out with him and jam with him.  David Bowie and Alan Rickman are greatly admired.

(Ed:  doesn't it make you sad when they die?)

Sad isn't really the word for it because the bell tolls for thee and whomever died can't hear it.  The world is better while they're still in it but all of us have to roll eventually and all the ruckus doesn't make much sense to me if we don't make the same ruckus while they're alive.

I have enjoyed David Bowie's work many, many times ever since he first hit the stage even though I never saw him in concert.  It's similar with Alan Rickman when I've seen him in many performances and always admired his work.  He was such an evil bastard in "Die Hard" but was quite funny in "Galaxy Quest" and then, what do you know, he's a wizard.  Bowie was a wizard all along.

If there's to be an elegy here for David Bowie, it would be much better to stand back so he can present it himself.

With immense respect, David Bowie ...
