In previous times, all assets related to your iBook were uploaded via the iTunes Connect Web site and this was how to put the whole thing together for delivery to the iTunes Store.
The way it is done now is with iTunes Producer, a program that runs on your computer and which performs the upload when you have finished putting everything together for the book.
However, iTunes Connect is not completely removed from the process as it is still needed to set up contracts, bank information, etc. It's also needed to show any tickets that have been posted to you from Apple Support regarding your book. Today I got one to advise that 'iBook' is a trademark and cannot be used in the text of a book and I was asked to remove it. That's now done and "Abandoning Paradise" has been re-submitted.
