Bank of America sent me a statement just now to advise that I have .55 cents in an IRA (Individual Retirement Account). They had thoughtfully done a projection and told me that if the economy stays relatively stable then I should be able to retire in about 4500 years.
The IRA has not been opened in years. It's so touching that Bank of America has gone to so much trouble to take care of fifty-five cents when it seemingly has so much couple keeping track of six-figure mortgages ... but such is modern finance in the computer age.
My inclination is to write back to Bank of America to advise them to abandon caution with my fifty-five cents. Invest it all in gold. Buy Krugerrands or at least the bag that once contained a Krugerrand. Let's see that money working and I realize the risk but, God help me, I can't resist the gamble.
