So the Showdown is Set: Germany vs Argentina

There was no chance of watch the game today between Netherlands and Argentina.  My mission to save the cats last night was effective insofar as it saved them from a cruel and painful death but it did not stop the black one from scratching my ankle any time I walk past her.  Yevette says it is because the cat loves me.  I say, bullshit, the cat is just trying to tenderize me so I'll be ready to eat.  That expedition did me for the day and I was down before the sun had set.

So I did not see the game but it ended up with a 0:0 score that was settled with a penalty kick shoot-out that went in favor of Argentina.

I did not see the game so I cannot attest to it but I read of lots of fouls, lots of dirty fighting.  I'll talk to Cat about it to learn of reputations as some teams have more of a bad reputation than others.

So we see Argentina's defense is immaculate.  We know one thing immediately:  there is no chance Germany will score three goals in three minutes.

We have already seen Germany's offense is fast, clean, and almost unstoppable.

So this looks like a bit of a contest between an irresistible force and an unmovable object but we'll have to watch the game to see who cracks.

Futbal is fast as the game doesn't drag out like America's version of cricket (i.e. football).  They don't stop every time someone breaks a fingernail and the game is moving, moving, moving all the time.  That's a big part of why I find it exciting as American football is like playing battlefield generals or something but generals only play with their mustaches and say Harrumph a lot.  Futbal doesn't have time for that.

Whatever you're doing for that last game, I'd cancel it as, get this, the World Cup outdrew, in television watchers, the World Series.  I love this as it's a good-hearted nationalism in which everyone has a fair shot.  This kind of stuff goes all the way back to the way the Olympics were and it's one fine tradition.

Some of you may not be interested as I know le Tour de France has already started and has completed several stages.  As of two days ago they had not yet left England to get into the primary aspect of the contest but this one is building nevertheless.  I never gave much thought to le Tour until Lotho put me onto it and seeing some of it in France was extraordinary as it's a gorgeous thing.  Ordinarily a bicycle is just something for bookkeepers to make them feel like they do something dangerous but le Tour makes them beautiful (bicycles or bookkeepers).

One of the most unusual things about le Tour is that I heard some English tourists talking while we waited for the pack to arrive in-town and they were great fans of le Tour but what struck me was that I hadn't heard anyone speak English as a native language in over a year!
