NetNewsWire was one of the earliest and best newsreaders for Mac systems but it fell from use somewhat with the advent of the Facebook and the widespread dissemination of news for people who can't read. However, Facebook gives more reason to use NetNewsWire rather than less as news that was cluttered before Facebook is now lost underneath yet another layer of useless Internet rubble. The trouble is the rubble from Facebook doesn't stay silent and insists it has a useful opinion on things. (You can download the software at the NetNewsWire site)
RSS or Really Simple Syndication / Subscription is a very easy mechanism for tracking changes to Web sites, particularly those that provide news. It has huge advantages over doing it with a Web browser and that's what brought me back to it.
Facebook is a monumental timesuck driven by people who are either too old for masturbation, too unimaginative for drugs, or both. NetNewsWire provides a quick solution and I'm damn glad to find it.

- You can get a one-line summary of all the news headlines from the places you are monitoring thus permitting you to quickly scan for anything of interest.
- There are no cookies required for using NetNewsWire. No-one can track you doing it.
- The news articles are not accompanied by opinions from social network scientists who never graduated from high school.
- It's not a debate, it's just the news.
