lefty Unplugged - A Cracker at Cat's Art MusikCircus

There's no telling what will come in a performance from musicians who feature original work, you just know it will be good.  Some of those performances will be better than others and lefty Unplugged did a fantastic job last night at Cat's Art MusikCircus.  (Regarding the title, it is much better to be a cracker in England than it is to be one in the U.S.)

lefty Unplugged started out with a guitar improv and it was cool but he was kind of finding his way.  As the set progressed, he got tuned with the audience and things started to accelerate.  One of the things that greatly fuelled the acceleration was a comment from bug Blazwood in which she stated, just as I write, that she wanted to see lefty's yellow shoes making love.

Now I really don't know what bug had in mind but lefty thought about things for a minute and then launched into "The Yellow Slipper Porno Song."  Except it wasn't porno but rather a thoughtful improv on yellow slippers and love.  This is one of the ways in which lefty's music is brilliant as he was inventing it all along and it was a highly-captivating piece.

But it wasn't recorded.  More on this later.

lefty followed with a song of his called "Blacker Than" and he was just ripping into this one.  This is not a song for a Barbara Cartland romance and he sings it with the voice he needs to tell that kind of story.  Dark, very dark but hugely powerful and lefty killed it last night, he was just throwing it right down.

But it wasn't recorded.

He followed with a much softer song called "Because of You" and it's an immense story of love which says generally that everything I am is because of you.  For this one and "Blacker Than" as well, people in the audience, myself included, were typing out some of the lyrics in chat to give some more boost to the song and tell lefty that we are really diggin' this.

But it wasn't recorded.

So, about recording.  Now that I have a fast enough Internet connection, I can capture audio/video from Second Life.  I have software for it and perhaps it's even still registered for use.  Capturing the video is mechanically not much more than turning on a virtual camera but there's a wee bit more to it as the music is not mine.  Once I've tested to ensure I can get good reliable video captures from SL, I'll ask performers if they would like it if I recorded some of their sets.  If yes then you will be seeing it here in the relatively near future.

And of course Cat and I danced.  For music like this we were kicking it up all over the place.
