The Bravery of the Anti-War Activists Who Broke into the FBI Offices

In a burglary far more daring than that wimpy absurdity of the Watergate, the raiders involved in it would probably have been rigged for espionage by J. Edgar Hoover and never would have been released from jail again.  The raid went better than they could ever have hoped because the FBI was lackadaisical about security and the raiders recovered files which fully-documented the illegality of a tremendous part of the FBI's activity.

One of the raiders even commented from the notes, an agent started a rumor a professor's wife was having an affair and he was proud of breaking up the couple's marriage.  In their eyes, all academics are leftists.  That's likely true but that's only subversion in the eyes of far right extremists such as Hoover who probably didn't really have any political party except himself and hatred of the mother who so damaged him as a man.

The most incendiary element of the stolen documents was the existence it revealed of a programme called Cointelpro – or Counterintelligence Program – a massive effort by the FBI to infiltrate and disrupt the peace, civil rights and black power movements and put many of their leaders under surveillance. One notorious letter sent by the FBI to Martin Luther King contained materials relating to his extra-marital sexual activity intended to blackmail him into suicide, with a note that said: “King, there is only one thing left for you to do. You know what it is.”

The Guardian:  Burglars in 1971 FBI office break-in come forward after 43 years

This act led to exposure of some of the FBI's worst operations and Nixon tried to strong-arm the Washington Post to prevent publication but they ignored him and went forward.  It wasn't the last time that Fascist would have troubles with the Washington press since back then they really were investigative journalists.

Nothing in particular has changed as Edward Snowden exposed a similar type of widespread corruption within the NSA and the FBI has been part of the illegal surveillance as well.  None of it accomplished anything and bin Laden attacked New York to their complete surprise and with complete impunity.  They say it's better now but nothing improved since 1971 and the Hoover dictatorship started long before that.

Note:  the NSA existed long before Bush and Obama expanded it so much.

All of these people enrage the far-right extremists (i.e. what's left of the Republicans) and of course they would be enraged after activists pulled down their trousers and exposed their teenie weenies.

The biggest tragedy of all of this is how the Army used Chelsea Manning as the scapegoat for its own corrupt procedures and they're determined to drive her to suicide since they can't execute her.  Her treatment is just one more example of Pentagon cowardice.

For more, consider the Pentagon general who recently ranted killing off ISIS in Iraq and Syria won't stop it because, after all, they're coming from everywhere to kill everybody.  All that fat ass loudmouth is really saying is he's afraid of losing his job security.  He won't ever go to combat so he doesn't give a shit how long it continues.  Leaders like that have no hope of winning any kind of a war and, what do you know, they never do.
