This story will wallow in excessive cuteness but not up-front as things really suck for bats in Australia just now. There is a rampaging heat wave that follows the hottest year on record and bats are falling out of trees dead. They aren't the only animals affected so harshly but it is pretty extreme as it's possible that hundreds of thousands of them have died already.
Hat tip from the Australian bats to Fox News for their stupid crap about the denial of global warming just because O'Reilly had to get one of his servants to scrape the ice of the windshield of his limousine this morning.
In case you don't know it, bats are your friends. As much as you hate mosquitos, bats love them ... to eat. What's more, they can catch them and you usually can't ... until after they sting you.
So, yah, we like bats.
Which brings us to the part with the excessive cuteness. There's an Australian Bat Clinic that's working to save the bats they can and, yes, there's a picture. If you never thought a bat could be cute then take a look. (NPR: While U.S. Shivers, Australia And Brazil Sizzle)
Yah, lots of baby bats in blankets drinking out of milk bottles. Aren't you sorry you skipped the pic now?
You can learn more about the Australian Bat Clinic on their Web site and of course this is an organization supported by public contributions. You can see from the article what they do.
