There will be protest in Chicago on Black Friday by the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression which seeks more police accountability and is protesting how police shootings that sparked last year's protests have been handled. (Chicago Tribune: Activists plan Black Friday protest on North Michigan Avenue)
Since police killings this year are just about to go over a thousand again, it doesn't appear anything has been done about police shootings so the people march.
It's kind of cool to see the rage in Republicans over protests of this nature. Apparently they didn't get it from Gandhi or the sixties that civil disobedience has to piss you off or it's nothing more than a parade.
Ed: at least they don't bring marching bands!
If that's what it takes to get the attention of the overlords, maybe they should!
No-one seems to know who goes out for Black Friday except you don't. Everyone kicks back smugly to say, man, no way I'm fuckin' with that mess so that leaves us asking ... who the hell does?
Regardless of situation, I never participated in Black Friday nor did anyone I have ever known express a desire to do it.
It seems like the answer, generically, is po' people do it but I know po' people quite well and we don't. We won't do anything unless we feel like it and we definitely don't feel like going out on a Black Friday.
Overall I think Black Friday is kind of dying out due to replacement by online since, remarkably, most people don't want to go cage fighting just to find a new TV set.
Every year there's the obligatory local news video which shows some Black Friday violence at a Wal-Mart or Target, etc and the subjects in the video will almost invariably be black. What do you know, when there's a disproportionate number of poor black people then they turn up in racially-biased seasonal videos.
Ed: there are no poor people going to Saks Fifth Avenue in Chicago!
They're poor alright. When they need to make a show out of buying on such a day when many try to do the best they can with so little, there's hardly a better example of spiritual bankruptcy than Saks Fifth Avenue. If any stories on the day are sad, it's likely to be they since those people reached for the dream and thought they had it but found nothing except baubles and temporary comforts.
Now the rich guy is off screwing his mistress but you have the fur, darlin'. Enjoy the holidays. Stay warm.
Ed: well aren't you cynical!
No more so than you, hombre. You don't want the Black Friday mess either so wtf is up with those people.
