People watch a carnival held by the Pyrenees villages of Ituren and Zubieta. In one of the most ancient carnivals in Europe, dating from before the Roman empire, residents of the two villages parade through the streets wearing sandals, lace petticoats, sheepskins, coloured neckerchiefs and conical caps with ribbons, with a hyssop of horsehair in their right hands and cowbells hung across their lower backs.
