The #GoldenShowerGate episode seemed like the sleaziest #FakeNews could ever get but really it was just a nasty variation on the Basic Hooker story. To get to the really nasty, you need dead people and, ideally, a lot of them. For a shot at the Cthulhu title, recycle those bodies, for example, into butter or margarine. Now you're up to the Soylent Green level for an offense against all of humanity.
So that's what they did. Brits wanted China to join the Allies in fighting Germany during WWI so they fabricated the story about Germany recycling dead bodies to make food products, etc. There was global outrage and China did, in fact, join the Allies after that. (BBC: The corpse factory and the birth of fake news)
Apparently the story was so widespread there were even editorial cartoons in the papers about the Cadaver Factory.

Hopefully you will admit #GoldenShowerGate has got nothin' on this one.
Rumours about processing dead bodies had been in circulation since 1915 but had not been presented as facts by any official source.
That changed in April when the Times and the Daily Mail published accounts from anonymous sources who claimed to have visited the Kadaververwertungsanstalt, or corpse-utilisation factory.
- BBC
There's no particular editorial since you know politics is a stinking sewer already but the evil in this stunt takes us all the way to Mordor.
Ed: are you going to tell them about how DARPA has been working out how to make orcs?
Surely they already know it.
