The Great Ukrainian Disappearing Act

For days, the story of what unfolds in Ukraine has been as sexy to CNN as their own autographed copy of Lindsay Lohan's underwear.  Today, the story and, presumably, the underwear are nowhere to be seen.

Instead they run a story of how Russia is trying to foment civil war in Ukraine.  Perhaps Wolf Blitzer suggested Russia exacerbates the problem by supplying more victims to burn in future Trade Unions Buildings.  There is nothing in CNN of that story.

This was the CNN 'resource' on this story:

Russia appears to be guiding the country in that direction by inciting unrest between pro-Russian interests and Ukrainian forces, said former U.S. diplomat Christopher Hill.

Say what?  Where did they find a pool of political losers deep enough for this useless fish bait.  Who the hell was Christopher Hill and who the hell cares.  He's nobody.  (CNN:  As violence escalates in Ukraine, so do fears of civil war)

There is not one word about the Trade Unions Building and all the people who died.  If you dig into lower-level articles you can find it (i.e. they buried it).

Yah, I'd be ashamed too.

My conservative friend and I were reviewing various information sources and were coming to the same conclusion:  stay the hell out of this.  Nothing good will come to the US for getting enmeshed in this situation.

But then he suddenly polarized without any particularly incriminating piece of evidence to take the position that 'Putin must be stopped.'  This despite the absence of any significant evidence that Putin is doing anything.  In fact, the burning of the Trade Unions Building is just about the most conclusive proof you could ask to show that he is not interfering.

Yes, we know Putin was once deep into STASI in East Germany.  There's no telling how this may influence his political decisions but it never fazed America to hire a President who had worked for the CIA so I don't see this as a huge deal.  I've read of his time with STASI and have not read of him being charged with anything so it's a piece of information to be regarded with some caution.

This isn't about anti-American, it's about anti-Washington, and, these days, they aren't even close to the same thing.
