Likely you already know American kids won't fare to well in this survey and the startling part is just how badly they did. (Science Daily: 50-country comparison of child and youth fitness levels: US near the bottom)
Set aside any agenda as the scientists don't have one. Agendas only come when the talking heads start pushing opinions. The science speaks for itself and the US scored poorly, not much above Mexico which did worst.
There are obvious reasons with weight management but the researchers were trying to find any kind of differences associated with variations from one country to the next. Maybe one of the most telling is countries with an inequitable distribution of wealth scored poorly in the overall fitness of their children. Presumably that means the rich kids are in great shape and the others not so good but who knows if the rich kids are in such great shape either.
There's no need for a windy editorial as it doesn't need an enhanced electron microscope to see America isn't doing healthy things. The sci-fi is that it easily could but that gets so Disneyland you will run for the doors.
Actually it's not a 'small, small world' and it's always a magnificent amazement to discover again just how big it is. You will never hear it's a small world when you're three hours out of Heathrow over the Atlantic.
Assuming I already ran the mainstream out of here, you're the ones who want to do something about it to make the sci-fi happen but there's the thick as a brick dumb ass defense which prevents anything from going anywhere. Everything goes to D.C. and it stops.
Unknown what you will do about it but getting the kids healthy is something I'm sure you see as a high priority in it. Maybe some recall Kennedy and 'vim and vigor' in the kids ... wasn't that long ago.
