"Panic in Detroit" - Live - David Bowie (video)

Forty years later and there's still a Panic in Detroit and this was the first David Bowie song which really hooked me.

Rest easy, Mars Man.  Thanks for some of the most twistedly cool times of the era.

Detroit is a city on the mend The development around the waterfront makes it a cool place to visit. If it continues to expand the loss of the auto industry will be over

Cadillac Man went up there quite a bit but he was working with inner city small businesses. Unsure if his view was quite so optimistic but he did enjoy it up there because he worked with such an extraordinary variety of people.

I last worked in Detroit for 2 weeks in May, 2015. It was difficult to find a room at a reasonable rate (less than $150). Also, cars and business going on everywhere. The inner city of Detroit has suffered from neglect and corruption. However, the people of Detroit are great. They are tough survivors that are very proud of Motown. It is making a slow comeback that has been helped by the revival of the car industry. Detroit is still the center of the automobile industry (the North American International Auto Show is going on this week), Detroit always seem to me to get a worse rap than cities like Cleveland, OH, Gary, IN and the south side of Chicago (areas I found to be a lot more dangerous and crime invested).

Every time you have talked of Detroit and the people, there has been a fondness to it and quite a bit for the variety of people you would meet. It's been a good perspective for me as otherwise I would likely think of it as Flint, Michigan, as it was when Michael Moore filmed "Roger and Me" and the one girl was only surviving because she discovered a market for rabbits ... for pets or food. I remember that hand-written sign. Whew. Hard living.
