Erik, the proffered but false name of the Phantom of the Opera, has many parallels. Of one thing, I'm absolutely sure: Erik is not dead.
There's another version of the song featuring Sarah Brightman and Antonio Banderas. It's an unexpected role for him and he's magnificent in it. The Nightwish arrangement is vastly more powerful without losing the content of the song and is my far and away favorite.
