Revolution at Cat's Art MusikCircus

The show at Cat's Art MusikCircus on Tuesday were very impressive and for more than the quality of the music as an extraordinary amount of it was being heard for the first time.  In three hours of music from three different acts, almost two thirds of it was brand new and much of it never heard before.  When music is dynamic in this way it can alienate people ... and the rest go to Cat's Art MusikCircus.

DD (Deceptions Digital) gave a one-hour set for the first show and a substantial part of her playlist is always new.  She is driven to create new music and frequently gives us songs she recorded only hours before the show.  She also has a huge thirst for new audio samples and will use anything available to her the expand her sound.

Michi Renoir gives us an improvised set every week and it's not just twinkling scales endlessly on a piano.  He uses multiple voices simultaneously to paint a world no-one ever saw before and drives it with big percussion.  He really can play equally comfortably in a punk band or playing classical and he has done both.

Reis and Aldo have complex arrangements in their songs which aren't as quick to roll out for the stage but about half of their set was music we had not heard before.  You do not know in hearing new material from them what it will be as some will contain arrangements featuring Reis singing in her beautiful and exotic way and others will be instrumental with synthesizers and big backing from the sophisticated rhythms Aldo devises.

You can find more about all these musicians on Cat's MusikCircus Web site.  There are links to videos and other Web sites that show you more about their music.

It's normally my purpose to tell you about the specifics or at least some of them from any given show but it's more important to let people know how much all of the performers keep their sets changing.  Performers who do this are specifically the ones Cat tries to find because, as she says it, "I get bored easily."

It's funny how she says it but still that says it all.  Musicians who always push forward will never bore you.  Hopefully you like where it goes or maybe you won't but it will always be an adventure.  Everyone who performs at the Circus looks at music like that and you really never know from one week to the next what will come from them.  You see the same names there quite a bit but that doesn't at all mean the shows stay the same.
